Sura Al-kafirun -> Tolerance?

Salam. The surah teaches us that we have a clear separate way of life that cannot be compromised لَكُمْ دِينُكُمْ وَلِيَ دِينِ clearly shown to the Kuffar. قُلْ يَا أَيُّهَا الْكَافِرُونَ and between its first and last ayah, emphasizing the main difference...who we devote our lives to (Allah swt), and that we will not compromise on submission to Him alone : لَا أَعْبُدُ مَا تَعْبُدُونَ ... وَلَا أَنَا عَابِدٌ مَّا عَبَدتُّمْ

Anyway - On a recent question on how muslims should behave in nonmuslim societies, I answered :

What you should Not do is be Influenced by their way of life devoid of guidance from Allah swt. Remember, you believe in the last revelation which is completely preserved, and you believe in the last Prophet. What you should not do also is learn Any Islam from them (< Where Most of our problems come from)

What you Should do is fulfil your duties to Allah swt, as the Earth belongs to Allah swt. And from it, is that you call others to the truth, and you make the truth plain and clear to everyone you can. Once this message is plain and clear, many people accept it very easily, because it is the Fitrah/Nature to submit to Allah swt. (Especially effective to the youth, whose fitrah is not as corrupted as others, so da'wah should focus on them)

Proofs for the above :

قُلْ يَا أَهْلَ الْكِتَابِ تَعَالَوْا إِلَىٰ كَلِمَةٍ سَوَاءٍ بَيْنَنَا وَبَيْنَكُمْ أَلَّا نَعْبُدَ إِلَّا اللَّهَ وَلَا نُشْرِكَ بِهِ شَيْئًا وَلَا يَتَّخِذَ بَعْضُنَا بَعْضًا أَرْبَابًا مِّن دُونِ اللَّهِ ۚ فَإِن تَوَلَّوْا فَقُولُوا اشْهَدُوا بِأَنَّا مُسْلِمُونَ

3:64. Say (O Muhammad ): "O people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians): Come to a word that is just between us and you, that we worship none but Allâh, and that we associate no partners with Him, and that none of us shall take others as lords besides Allâh. Then, if they turn away, say: "Bear witness that we are Muslims."

يَا أَهْلَ الْكِتَابِ لِمَ تُحَاجُّونَ فِي إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَمَا أُنزِلَتِ التَّوْرَاةُ وَالْإِنجِيلُ إِلَّا مِن بَعْدِهِ ۚ أَفَلَا تَعْقِلُونَ

3:65. O people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians)! Why do you dispute about Ibrâhim (Abraham), while the Taurât (Torah) and the Injeel (Gospel) were not revealed till after him? Have you then no sense?

مَا كَانَ إِبْرَاهِيمُ يَهُودِيًّا وَلَا نَصْرَانِيًّا وَلَٰكِن كَانَ حَنِيفًا مُّسْلِمًا وَمَا كَانَ مِنَ الْمُشْرِكِينَ

3:67. Ibrâhim (Abraham) was neither a Jew nor a Christian, but he was a true Muslim Hanifa (Islâmic Monotheism - to worship none but Allâh Alone) and he was not of Al-Mushrikûn (Polytheist).

tolerance = not to mix between/amongst religions or not to exceed boundaries..

of course, everyone is free to come to islam..

but there's no force to become muslim..

and muslims are not allowed to mix among other religions' aqidah..

that's our boundary, and so our tolerance..
