it depends on how they're served. a galette can be a main meal; pancakes with bacon can be a breakfast / brunch option; a crepe suzette is a dessert; and blinis would be an appetiser or canape

Pancakes are entrees. Some good sides could be beacon or sausage, ham, eggs.

Any of these, can apply to pancakes in the case of before, during or after  a meal.

Big fat buttermilk pancakes are pretty much a breakfast/brunch item. But carried to their extreme elegance, pancakes become crepes, and are suitable for appetizers, entrees and best of all deserts. While crepes Suzette are a classic dessert (warm crepes in an orange/butter sauce, served flambe), my favorite is crepes with canned cherry pie filling with a dab of whipped cream. I buy sugar free pie filling, and use sucralose in the crepe batter and whipped cream. Sugar free and oh so good.

I have a crepe maker that you dip in a pie pan of batter, and it cooks what sticks to the maker. It takes the requirement of experience out of crepe making, and the results are consistently perfect. You can find them on line.
